• The Anti-Erosion Program or PLAE is a development program in Madagascar co-financed by the Federal Republic of Germany through KfW and the Malagasy Government through the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries. contributes to poverty reduction and the sustainable management of natural resources. It is carried out by project funding phase granted after evaluation of its implementation.

  • During phases 1 and 2, the program focuses on the fight against erosion of the watersheds around the 5 irrigated rice-growing areas of Madagascar, namely the plain of Marovoay (Region Boeny), the plain of Bezaha (Region Boeny Atsimo-Andrefana), Plain of Bemaha (Amoron'i Mania Region) and plains of Ambilobe (DIANA) and Andapa (SAVA).

In phase 3 (PLAE III) and phase 4 (PLAE IV) of financing, the two projects focus on the production of energy wood by village groups in order to reduce the pressure on the natural forests around the regions of intervention in DIANA Sofia, Boeny, Betsiboka, Amoron'i Mania, Haute Matsiatra and Ihorombe.

During phase 5 (PLAE V), it focuses on the restoration of landscapes and forests, in the DIANA, Boeny and Betsiboka regions.

In all phases of the PLAE, soil erosion protection in order to preserve the sustainable use of watersheds always remains a cross-cutting activity.
